The Abbey at Sant' Antimo

Some more photos around the abbey and the area. Enjoy !

Our nifty little car hire, ideal for the two of us. I used the following car hire company. Got a very good rate too.

The Abbey at Sant' Antimo

Spent our last full day in Montalcino at The Abbey  at Sant' Antimo. The weather was beautiful and just a 15 minute drive away. After spending some time there we then went on to a spectacular lunch close by in Sant' Angelo in Colle. More on that lunch later.

The small town of  Castelnuovo dell' Abate, overlooking the abbey.

San Quirico d' Orcia

After leaving Pienza, we stopped off on the way back to Montalcino at San Quirico d' Orcia. Another delightful small walled town, flat too for walking.

More From Pienza

Some more shots of beautiful Pienza home of the Pecorino Cheese.

My fascination for front doors ? ?

Pienza

Had a drive from Montalcino to Pienza, about 25 minutes away. Lovely place, flat not hilly like Montalcino. Home of the famous Pecorino Cheese. Some photos for your pleasure. Enjoy !

2 Dinners at Re di Macchia

We enjoyed 2 very good dinners here. Just to the right to where we were staying in Montalcino, about 20 yards further down the road. The food was excellent, that good that I was so carried away I forgot to take pictures the first night of our apps and mains. We then had another mains to share as you will see.

The mains to share, Beef Fiorentina, a huge T Bone with extra roast veggies, steamed spinach and roast pots. Yumeeeeeee !!!!

With an excellent Brunello di Montalcino Wine.

Followed by Tiramisu

Second night (our last night).

Starters Smoked Goose Carpaccio

                                                   Rabbit Salad

Just had the simple but wonderful " green pasta" pici tossed in rocket pesto on a bed of nettles.

To finish off Creme Brulee.
